Our Certification Process
Jhatka and Shikari Approved Association
Jhatka refers to an ethical means of consumption whilst minimising suffering of the animal. This is a single strike method using the 'divine' kirpan for ethical consumption. Shikari (also known a hunting) follows the ancient principle of hunting for your food as the warriors would in battle to survive. Both adhering to Sikhism practices of ethical and warranted consumption of meat.
JSAS is a regulatory body that ensures that the correct practices are followed in adherence to both UK law as well as maintaining the principles of Sikhism. We ensure that not only is the slaughter of the meat done in the correct manner; hygiene, health and safety regulations, animal welfare standards are all also monitored through thorough inspection processes and risk assessments. We ensure that only businesses adhering to the process of Jhatka/shikari are independently certifies by JSAS once maintaining thorough inspection and following guidelines provided. Procedures are put into place for this and regular monitory checks are made. Maintenance of a high standard of hygiene is important to us as well as the tools used in the process.
